Hug your Kitties

I had a sad weekend. One of the dumpster kitties died. She was hit by a car and I found her Saturday morning on my way to give them breakfast. It was especially difficult because she was one of the five I spayed and recovered just two weeks ago. She was very sweet and adorable, only about six months old.

I am not quite as sad as I was this weekend, but am still very angry that this happened. Once in a while cats will wander onto the busy streets and be hit. It is tragic but often unavoidable as the speed limits around here are 45 miles per hour, and people usually drive at least 50-55. What I am still trying to understand is how fast you have to be going in a residential parking lot to hit a cat. It makes me fear for the other ferals, not to mention the many kids who also live here. That driver was careless and stupid. God, I hate people sometimes.

Anytime I hear about, or worse experience, something like this it makes me want to go give our house kitties a tight squeeze and thank heavens they are healthy and under our care. You ought to do the same.

UPDATE: I learned when I got home from work that the kitty wasn't hit by a car after all. Turns out she was shot by some fucking psychopath that lives in my complex. Yep. Dean does the morning feedings and one of our acquaintances said her husband witnessed one of their neighbors shoot the cat and another one from his balcony. She was shaken up about it as well but she said her husband confronted the guy about it and threatened him with violence if he ever caught the guy doing that again. Dean came with me to feed the kitties after work and we saw the psycho shooting bottles in the parking lot. He looked very scary. I didn't confront him, thankfully my neighbor already did that for me. And my neighbor is a big guy who watches out for the kitties. I don't know if the psycho hit the other cat he shot at or if it's okay. I'm scared though.

So sorry about kitty cat. I totally hugged up on Putter this weekend; she's my baby! I'd be so wrecked if anything happened to her!

Oh no. I'm very sorry to hear about the kitty. I just gave Silvio a big kiss. My other two are outside.

I hate to see bad things happen to any animal. Especially preventable bad things.

I will definetly go hug Boogie because the very thought of not having her in my life, or her little ID tags tapping together to make a bell noise while she prances around the house, makes tears come to my eyes.

I just hope it was quickly and as pain free as possible for the little one going to kitty heaven.

Hugs.

i know we just talked about this on the phone but PLEASE don't try to confront him yourself. go to management and tell them you are afraid to walk to the mailbox, garbage or even to your car because of this guy. remind them that there are children in the complex. you don't even have to mention the kitties in case they are not sympathetic. put the pressure on management, he shouldn't be living in normal society.

I think that the police should be called. Shooting animals (or bottles in a residential area) is NOT normal behavior. He should be stopped before something even more tragic happens. Is it lawful to discharge a weapon in such circumstances? Does he have a permit (or whatever you need in Florida)? This guy might be seriously unhinged.

Please listen to your Mom and fermicat! This is really scary and serious. I'm so sorry about the kitty and I'm worried about you and Dean's safety.

That is illegal and really just so unreal that someone would do that. Listen to your mom - tell people. But also I am very sorry, this must be horrible to go through. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Listen to your Mom and go staight to management! Next time he could hit a child. Your right, he is a psycho

Oh my god, I would skip going to management and go right to the police! There are laws in place for the discharge of weapons in city property - I'm sure he's doing something illegal just by discharging it, no matter that he could hit a kid or kill another kitty. Please, call the 5-oh!

Call the cops. In Missouri, it's illegal to shoot anything without a hunter's license, even rodents and "pests." I imagine that in Florida it's illegal to kill cats, even if they are strays. If you do nothing, the problem will worsen, and possibly escalate.

I don't know about Florida (I think that's where you said you live now isn't it?) but in Pennsylvania, that is definitely a crime. Report the jackass! That is just SOOOOO wrong, so wrong, to do something like that to a kitten - to any animal really!!!

I agree with the general consensus. Call the cops.

I wouldn't mind guns so much if it weren't for the idiots who own them.
